Diving into an Bizarre Steam Demo: Playing as a Turdy Character in a Mission to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have found a variety of entertaining indie games. But, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure includes a protagonist that is truly a dung attempting to travel to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."
Player controls is straightforward: you only need a jump control. In 150 challenges, battle tough enemies and unlock a market to buy customizations for your fecal avatar.
Execute your jumps with caution, since one wrong move forces restarting the level. Bounce on floating orbs to propel the poop higher, cross fragile surfaces, and interact with triggers to open new areas. Gather coins and use them on tougher levels in which things ramps up.
Graphically, the demo boasts vibrant environments and an amazing soundtrack. The simple art of morphing abstract forms evokes memories of players of classic titles like Earthbound.
Although tough to recall previous releases where you control a dung character, interactive entertainment have long incorporated scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, players make explosives from character excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as plant food. Unsurprisingly, fecal references is present a lot in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its silly premise, Unko Technica has already received significant recognition, like taking top honors at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. A playable preview is accessible at present on Steam, with the full game scheduled to debut on PC this November.
