The athlete recorded her fastest time of one minute 54.61 seconds the previous season in London.

Keely Hodgkinson finished her 800m campaign with a win at the women-only Athlos meet in New York on Friday night.

{The current Olympic champion, who secured bronze at the World Championships recently, dominated an impressive victory in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was just her sixth appearance in a year affected by a hamstring injury.

Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Hunter Bell took the runner-up spot again in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (1:58.57) claimed third.

"I haven't competed much this season so it was likely easier for me to compete and want to give it something," stated Hodgkinson.

"The atmosphere at the event is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."

The women-only meet packed the stadium in its second edition, introducing a party atmosphere to traditional track, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns replacing standard medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena Williams, who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was on hand to award the victors with their crowns.

Previous champions received $60,000 (£44,603) - one of the largest prize purses in track and field.

The event also attracted several top athletes, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, finishing in 4:17.78.

The US Brittany B., the 200m bronze medallist from last year's Paris Olympics, secured the 100m and 200m double.
