New England Match Longest Victory Run Since Brady Years with Triumph Against New York Jets
Rookie Henderson has recorded five TDs this season
The New England Patriots matched their best victory streak since the Brady period as they beat AFC East opponents the New York Jets by 13 points in professional football
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson led the way with three touchdowns as the New England squad claimed an eighth consecutive victory for the first time since iconic QB Tom Brady's closing campaign with the team in 2019
Signal-caller Drake Maye passed for 281 passing yards and a TD, completing 25 passes from 34 throws
The win increases the Patriots advantage at the summit of the AFC East as they advanced to nine wins and two defeats, with the Jets at the foot after slipping to a 2-8 mark
The Jets had scored first at Gillette Stadium with QB Justin Fields rushing for a five-yard TD to finish the Jets' first possession
But the home team answered in the second quarter as the rookie scored two short rushing scores before the running back hauled in a throw from Drake Maye at the rear of the endzone in the middle of the third quarter to extend the lead to 21 to 7
"That was a crucial moment for him rising to the challenge, and it's been great for him to keep earning playing time," Maye said of Henderson. "He wants to be outstanding."
Fields connected with Metchie toward the end of the third quarter to reduce the lead for the visitors but Andy Borregales kicked a two kicks in the fourth quarter as the Patriots closed out the victory
