Worrying Number of Users Now Use E-Cigarettes, Warns Global Health Body
Over 100 hundred million users, featuring at bare minimum 15 million youth, currently employ e-cigarettes, driving a recent wave of nicotine dependency, as stated by recent worldwide medical data.
Youth are, usually, nine times more likely than adults to vape, based on available worldwide statistics.
E-cigarettes are fueling a "fresh wave" of nicotine dependency, commented a leading health official. "They are promoted as risk reduction but, in reality, are ensnaring youth on nicotine at younger ages and endanger undermining decades of improvement."
Young People Being 'Focused On'
"Millions of people are stopping, or avoiding tobacco use due to tobacco restriction efforts by nations across the world," the official said.
"As a reaction to this significant advancement, the tobacco sector is fighting back with new nicotine items, actively targeting young people. Authorities must respond faster and stronger in applying proven tobacco-control policies," he further stated.
The e-cigarette numbers are a projection since some countries - 109 in total, and many in Africa and South-East Asia - fail to collect information.
Based on the analysis, as of recent February this period, at least 86 million e-cigarette users were mature individuals, mostly in high-income nations.
And at least 15 million teenagers between the ages of 13 and 15 already use e-cigarettes, per surveys from 123 countries.
Even though many nations have tried to establish e-cigarette policies to tackle child vaping in recent years, by the end of 2024, 62 nations even now had no policy in operation, and 74 nations had no age restriction at which e-cigarettes are allowed to be acquired, says the public health authority.
Simultaneously, tobacco use has been dropping - from an approximated 1.38 billion users in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024.
Prevalence of tobacco use among women decreased the largest - from 11% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2024.
For males, the decrease was from 41.4% in 2010 to 32.5% in 2024.
But 20% of mature individuals internationally yet consumes tobacco.
Cigarette consumption is linked to several illnesses, like cancer.
Professionals claim vaping is far less dangerous than traditional cigarettes, and can help you stop smoking. It is advised against for non-smokers.
E-cigarettes do not burn tobacco and do not create resin or CO, two of the most dangerous substances in tobacco vapors. They contain nicotine, which might be addictive.
